Isn’t it funny how desert islands seem to play a big part in literature and entertainment? From Cast Away to Gilligan’s Island, from Treasure Island to LOST, the concept of being marooned on a magical island is a favorite of writers and audiences alike. BUT… what if all of these happened on the same island?
Welcome to a bold new take on THE TEMPEST, William Shakespeare’s comedy adventure, in a performance set in the 1960s (exactly one week before the fated sailing of the SS Minnow). On a mysterious desert island, the magician Prospero – the deposed former ruler of Milan – uses the sprite Ariel to cause a massive storm resulting in a shipwreck in a grand scheme to get his throne back from his usurping brother and to find true love for his daughter Miranda. With drunken sailors searching for survivors, a witch’s evil son planning mutiny, and even a visit from some Roman goddesses, THE TEMPEST provides fun for the entire family.
Coolers, picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs are permitted. Please no tents or tables. Glass is prohibited. Those planning to attend the performance should practice social distancing, refrain from gathering in large groups and continue following all guidelines established by the CDC when in public spaces and around others outside of your household. Please note all information is subject to change, pending local, state, and federal Orders or Declarations.
We also encourage you to please consider supporting local restaurants by ordering to go prior to the event! Tell them we sent you!
